Next meeting within „The Heroes of Free Poland” project
On June 11 next meeting within the cycle “The Heroes of Free Poland” took place. This time students had the opportunity to meet former president, Mr. Bronisław Komorowski. It was the second meeting co-organised by the Lech Wałęsa Institute Foundation as a part of the project which aim is to educate young people on the newest history of Poland.
During the meeting president Komorowski spoke about his childhood, youth and dilemma he had to face at the time of his engagement in the opposition. He also commented on his activity as the president. Students listened carefully to the complicated history of his family, as well as numerous anecdotes. President also mentioned other heroes of the fight for freedom: Jacek Kuroń, Władysław Bartoszewski and Bronisław Geremek.
Students asked about the present and past times. President was also invited to tell anecdotes from the newest times – meetings with chancellor Angela Merkel or president Barack Obama. The discussion was finished with Mr. Komorowski being given a strong applause because, as it appeared, his interesting stories fascinated the listeners. At the end participants had the chance to talk with Mr. President and make a photo. The guest was also given presents prepared by the students.
Next meeting within the project in September.
